Moving Tips in Barefoot Beach
Moving isn't always fun. Moving can take longer than you expect and can be expensive. Our Moving Tips page will give you some ideas to make your move easier, less stressful and maybe save you some money. We hope you benefit from our years of experience.
Packing has to happen before you can move. Label your boxes with the room that they came from. You may want to use a different colored sticker or label for each room. You will know exactly which room the boxes go to when it comes time to unpack. Making an inventory list as you pack things can also be helpful. This could be a good time to take photos and make a home inventory for your insurance company.
Take a travel pack with you. This would include all the things you need when you get to your new home. Include any medicine, toiletries, change of clothes, bedding and other things you would need the first night. If you have pets, don't forget their food or toys. Takeout food or pizza can be a quick easy meal with little clean up for your first day at your new home. Bring a few candles and turn it into a romantic picnic.
Free and low cost help can go a long way to making your move less expensive. Friends, co-workers, neighbors and family can be good sources of free or inexpensive labor. Many will work for a free meal. Pizza places will even deliver and bring soda. Having a relative or friend watch children that are too young to help can really make life easier. The children will be safe and out from under foot. Tell everyone it is a moving party.
Sometimes it makes sense to use professional help. Some furniture may be too heavy for you to move yourself or you are concerned about damaging expensive furniture. Maybe you don't have the tools or skills to move your piano. Professional movers have the experience and equipment to safely move your belongings. Least expensive isn't always the best choice. Make sure your mover is licensed, insured and bonded. Check out our Moving Assistance section for tips on selecting a professional mover.
Furniture Set Up
It is best to place your furniture where you want it when you move into your new home. Then as you unpack you can set your smaller items around the furniture that is already in place. This way you won't have to keep moving the heavy furniture all around.
