Storage Tips in Bonita Beach

The number one tip is to be organized. It may seem like you are just too busy to take the time to be organized. But, some people say that for every minute you spend getting organized; you will save yourself five minutes hunting and trying to find what you are looking for. Label all of your boxes. The few seconds it takes to make a label can save you a ton of time when you are looking for something. The Storage Tips page gives hints to make it easier to be organized. It will be easier to find your belongings and take up less space. And using less space will save you money.

Furniture that can be disassembled will take up less room. Take the legs off tables if they are removable. The table will then take up very little space. Sofas, depending on how they are made, can be stored on end. Sleeper sofas may not be able to be stored this way. Chairs can often be stacked upside down on a couch or on each other. It is a good idea to make sure your furniture is clean before storing.

Your Closet

Wardrobe boxes are one of the best ways to store the clothes from your closet. Simply move the clothes on their hangers from the closet to the wardrobe box. The wardrobe box is easily stored and they can be stacked in the storage unit. When you move to your new home, the clothes move easily from the wardrobe box into the new closet. Save the wardrobe boxes and you can use them to store out of season clothing.

Heavy Items On The Bottom, Light Items On Top

You don't want to move heavy items more often than you need to. If you don't need access to something heavy, place these items at the back of your storage unit. You will want to place heavy items on the bottom and then stack the lighter items on top. This will help prevent the lighter items from getting crushed. Using good quality storage boxes will also help prevent crushing. Check out our Packing Tips page for more tips on packing your boxes. Using only a few different size boxes will make stacking easier allowing the boxes to stack up like a brick wall. This helps eliminate empty space.

Leave an Aisle

How often are you going to need access to your belongings? If you don't need to access your belongings, we suggest you use all of the space. Stack things to the ceiling and all the way out to the door. This lets you get by with the smallest space possible. If you only need access to a few things, save them for last. Store these items right by the door. That will make them easy to get to. If you are going to need access to a greater number of items, it is best to leave an aisle. Stack your boxes so the labels are facing the aisle. This will make it easy to find what you are looking for, almost like finding a book at the library. This can save you hours of hunting for that one item that somehow always seems to be at the bottom of the stack in the far corner. You can almost think of your storage unit as a large walk in closet.

Ovens, Dryers and Other Hidden Space

Your furniture and appliances can offer extra storage space. Fragile items can be placed inside an oven or drier or microwave. Washers, dishwashers and refrigerators can also be used to store and protect some of your belongings. Be sure to drain the washer and refrigerator drain line before storing. The odd shaped nooks and crannies created when you stack your furniture can be used for smaller items. Dresser drawers can also be used to store things while in storage. If you transport the dresser with the things in the drawers, make sure the items in the drawers are not so heavy that they damage the dresser while it is in transit.

The time spent planning and organizing before your move can save you a lot of time later. Good labeling will make things so much easier when you move your belonging into your new home. A few minutes thinking about how to stack things will minimize the risk of damage. Check out our Packing Tips page for more ideas on minimizing damage. If you have a question we haven't covered here, please stop in the office and ask about other tips we may know of.
